June was the first month of our Trainyard Connect Kindness Initiative & we were fortunate to partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Halifax. Celebrating their 50th birthday this month, with offices nearby on Ochterloney Street, Big Brothers, Big Sisters plays an important role in our community, partnering children with an adult volunteer mentor.
Volunteers offer just a few hours a month, but those hours have a big impact in the lives of children & youth in our community. Big Brothers, Sisters & Couples provide youth with a mentor & positive role model- but most importantly, a friend. Invite them to join you on your weekly hiking adventure, or to play a game of soccer in the park. Bond over a shared love of music, drawing or cheesy jokes. It doesn’t matter what you do, only that you do it together!
The children looking to be matched with mentors are looking for adult role models, someone who can help them build trust & self-confidence, while having fun!
There are opportunities to volunteer as an individual or as a couple!
